A Curriculum Focused on the Future of Cybersecurity

Our cybersecurity curriculum prepares you to succeed in high-demand positions and empowers you to adapt in a rapidly evolving field. Core cybersecurity courses focus on topics such as operating systems and algorithm analysis to provide you with a solid foundation in cybersecurity, while elective topics cover machine learning and biometrics to expand your understanding of the changing landscape.

The curriculum consists of 30 credits, including 12 credits of core courses and 18 credits of electives, twelve of which are required technical electives. Learn more about curriculum.

Students can complete the degree in as few as 15 months.

We offer four cohort start dates a year so you can start the program at the time that works best for you.

Course Spotlight: Machine Learning

This elective course provides an in-depth introduction to machine learning theory and methods. You will develop the skills you need to apply machine learning strategies in security contexts as well as explore topics including neural network approaches, data mining, fraud detection, pattern recognition and other contemporary applications.

Admissions Information

The College of Engineering and Computer Science seeks graduate students who have a passion to shape tomorrow’s technology and are prepared for the rigor of their programs. The online M.S. in Cybersecurity program is best suited for applicants that have prior demonstrated academic and/or work experience within the following prerequisite requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, computer engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, with an average GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Demonstrated core competencies in basic systems knowledge, data structures, discrete mathematics, and high-level programming (C and C++) are recommended.

Syracuse University offers four start dates annually in January, April, July and October. Learn more about our admissions process.

The final deadline for the July 2024 cohort is May 9, 2024.

GRE currently is not required.

Additional preparatory courses may be required for certain students.
