Resources

Syracuse University schools and colleges host celebratory convocations before commencement to individually recognize degree candidates and present special awards. Convocations are followed by receptions, providing students and families with the opportunity to mingle with deans and faculty. Schedules will be posted early in the spring semester.

Master’s degree candidates who plan to complete their coursework between December 2020 and August 2021 are invited to participate in the May 2021 ceremonies.

It is the student’s responsibility to know and fulfill all degree requirements for graduation. Participation in convocation and commencement ceremonies does not indicate that degree requirements have been completed.

Eligibility
For questions about eligibility, you can e-mail ExecutiveMPA@Syracuse Program Director Nell Bartkowiak or Student Success.

Maxwell Convocation vs. Syracuse University Commencement

The Maxwell convocation is held every May. This ceremony recognizes individual degree candidates and academic award winners.

Compared to the Maxwell convocation, the Syracuse University commencement ceremony is for graduates of all SU schools and is held on-campus every spring. It begins with student and academic processions, followed by keynote speakers and the ceremonial conferring of degrees.

Request Your Diploma

In order to receive your diploma and become a candidate for graduation, you must first submit a Request for Diploma.

  1. File a diploma request via MySlice under “Student Services: Academics.”
  2. Ensure MySlice has your most up-to-date primary mailing address at which to send your diploma. Make changes as necessary under “Personal Services: Personal Information.”

Tickets

Tickets are not necessary for convocations or commencement. Seating for all ceremonies is first-come, first-served.

Cap and Gown Rentals

Academic regalia is required. The Syracuse University Bookstore coordinates cap and gown distribution. Visit the commencement website regularly for updates on pricing and pickup details.

Degree Certification and Diploma Distribution

After the successful completion of all coursework and receipt of final grades, your degree will be certified by the ExecutiveMPA@Syracuse program. Degree certification takes place three times per year: May, June, and December. Your diploma will be mailed to your primary address upon certification. Please note that this process can take up to a few months.
