Introducing Communications@Syracuse

The communications industry is changing—in practice but not in purpose.

And that change requires leaders—people who are curious, thoughtful and innovative—who understand the limitless potential of how we deliver content and want to explore the most effective ways to inform and connect others. We are storytellers, reporters and creative communicators, rooted in the sacred traditions of our craft, while reinventing the forms our stories and products take and the ways in which they reach their audiences.

For the first time, the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, one of the top communications schools in the country, is offering a master’s degree in communications online: Communications@Syracuse. With this online Master of Science in Communications, we are working to reimagine what’s possible—in education, in communications and in the world.

“Through exploring the fast-changing digital communications landscape and the latest technologies impacting the media industry, Communications@Syracuse will ensure that students are prepared with the cutting-edge knowledge, insights and tools that will position them for success,” said Anthony Rotolo, a leading expert on emergent media and digital technologies. “The unique blend of online and in-person learning experiences mirrors the way that communication is happening today and enables the school to expand its reach beyond the physical campus.”

Communications@Syracuse coursework provides foundational knowledge in communications principles as well as the chance to focus your studies in one of three specialized areas: advertisingpublic relations or journalism innovation. Classes are delivered online by Newhouse School faculty, and coursework is available 24/7 from anywhere you have access to the Internet. You also will have the chance to meet classmates at in-person, three-day immersion experiences, which are held on the Syracuse campus and in media hubs around the world.

As a Communications@Syracuse student, you will be fully immersed in the Newhouse community, with access to the same resources and services as on-campus students, including the extensive alumni network (of which new media leaders like Foursquare’s Dennis Crowley are members).

The Newhouse School offers four Communications@Syracuse start dates throughout the year. Applications are now being accepted for our inaugural cohort, which will begin classes in July 2015. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
