The New York City metro area is home to Syracuse University’s greatest number of alumni, with nearly 8,000 alumni from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and a far-reaching base of nearly 50,000 alumni from the University at large. Hailing from Arverne, New York, a neighborhood in Queens, online MBA alumna Marissa Danzy is the Director of Operations for Enhanced Building Solutions. Her background is in engineering, and she is a licensed Merchant Mariner with the U.S. Coast Guard. She chose the online MBA program to move up in her field and to take advantage of networking opportunities with Syracuse University alumni in New York City and worldwide.
Big Apple Orange was founded in 2008 to connect the extensive Syracuse University presence in New York City. This active NYC club for all Syracuse University alumni strives to bring the spirit of “The Hill” to the five boroughs. Past events have included football and basketball watch parties, visiting university speakers, gallery receptions, trivia nights, new grad happy hours, and a variety of other activities.
New York Advisory Groups
Three organized groups of volunteers—the Metro New York Leadership Council, Generation Orange Alumni Leadership Society of New York, and Parents Executive Committee—partner with Syracuse University’s New York City staff to amplify Syracuse University’s reach in the greater NYC area. They help the University strengthen its philanthropic base, assist in recruiting local students, expand career networking opportunities for local alumni and recent grads, create alumni events, and develop academic programming in New York City.
Lubin House is home base for Syracuse University’s New York City operations. The house is located near such landmarks as Central Park, The Pierre Hotel, and Barney’s New York. Lubin House offers a wide array of programs and events, including alumni gatherings, industry discussion panels, and art exhibits. Many of Syracuse University’s academic programs utilize this NYC headquarters while professors and student groups are in the area.
