Resources
Syracuse University schools and colleges host celebratory convocations before commencement to individually recognize degree candidates and present special awards. Convocations are followed by receptions, providing students and families with the opportunity to mingle with deans and faculty. Schedules will be posted early in the spring semester.
Master’s degree candidates who plan to complete their coursework between December 2020 and August 2021 are invited to participate in the May 2021 ceremonies.
It is the student’s responsibility to know and fulfill all degree requirements for graduation. Participation in convocation and commencement ceremonies does not indicate that degree requirements have been completed.

College of Engineering and Computer Science Convocation vs. Syracuse University Commencement
The University conducts only one graduation weekend, which typically takes place the second weekend in May. The College of Engineering and Computer Science conducts its annual Graduate Convocation prior to the University Commencement.
Students whose graduation date is the December immediately before the May ceremony, May, or the August immediately after the May ceremony are eligible to participate. To do so, students need to file their Diploma Request through MySlice.
All students participating in the graduation activities must wear the official regalia of cap, gown and hood. Further information about the ceremonies can be found on the commencement page.
Students do not receive their diploma at the graduation ceremonies.

Remember, graduation date depends on when you complete your coursework, not the final semester you were registered. For example, if you are taking your final courses in the July session, the classes do not end until the middle of the University fall semester. Your graduation date would be December.
2. Ensure MySlice has your most up-to-date primary mailing address at which to send your diploma. Make changes as necessary under “Personal Services: Personal Information.”
