Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications offers two online degrees in communications that prepare students to leverage emerging media tools, ensure that their stories reach the right audience and make their mark on the industry.

With roots dating back to the founding of the Department of Journalism at Syracuse University in 1919, the Newhouse School was officially founded in 1971 and has been committed to educating and preparing the next generation of media professionals ever since.
That commitment continues today through 11 residential master’s degree programs, and two online master’s degree programs in communications that empower students to maximize the impact their stories have on the world around them.
Our expert faculty come from a variety of professional backgrounds in the communications industry from public relations and advertising to journalism and broadcast television. Newhouse professors guide each class session by diving deep into current trends and promoting discussion on how new technologies will shape the industry.

Since 2015, the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has been delivering online communications programs to students who are passionate about media. Developed through research on how students actually learn best online, our program features live, face-to-face classes hosted via Zoom that are capped at 15 students—to preserve the intimacy of an on-campus classroom. You’ll also work, interact and present on a digital platform—a skill set that’s mandatory for success in today’s tech-driven communications world.

Once accepted to the program, our student success team will begin to acclimate you to our online learning environment and provide any technological assistance you might need. You’ll also work with academic advisors to ensure you’re meeting your goals, and upon graduation, you’ll join our global Newhouse Network, which includes some of the most recognizable names working in media and communications today.
During your time as an online student, you will attend two in-person immersions where you can connect with your classmates and faculty and hear from media industry experts. Immersions are held on the Syracuse University campus in New York as well as a variety of domestic or international cities selected with each cohort. Learn more about the immersion experience.
